“Seek a relationship when you pray, not answers. You won’t always find answers, but you will always find Jesus.” — Father Mike Schmitz
Message from Pope Leo for Lent 2026
“Listening and Fasting: Lent as a Time of Conversion.”
Lent is a time in which the Church, guided by a sense of maternal care, invites us to place the mystery of God back in the center of our lives, in order to find renewal in our faith and keep our hearts from being consumed by the anxieties and distractions of daily life.
Every path towards conversion begins by allowing the word of God to touch our hearts and welcoming it with a docile spirit. There is a relationship between the word, our acceptance of it and the transformation it brings about. For this reason, the Lenten journey is a welcome opportunity to heed the voice of the Lord and renew our commitment to following Christ, accompanying him on the road to Jerusalem, where the mystery of his passion, death and resurrection will be fulfilled.

What to “do” for Lent?
Lent is almost here, and you might be starting to wonder, “What am I going to do for Lent?!” This question can be stressful for many of us and we question ourselves about whether or not “we are doing Lent the right way” or we become stressed about what others are doing for Lent. This stress and worry are not what our Lenten journey purpose is about.
Lent is 40 days long as a reminder of Christ’s 40 days in the wilderness, and His defeat of temptation. It is here that we are reminded that Jesus was also tempted and that He stood strong against evil. This reminds us that He is our strength against all temptation in this life and our need for Christ’s death on Good Friday. Lent is about going into the desert with Jesus, praying, fasting with Him, and facing our life with the strength of the Word of God, made new by the Holy Spirit and getting ready to celebrate the most sacred Mysteries of our faith at Easter. It’s about offering our whole hearts to Him in love and thanksgiving.
Since that is our foundation for discerning what to “do” for Lent, the best way to go about deciding is to simply ask Jesus. Ask Him what He desires for your Lent. He knows your heart more deeply than anyone else. So try not to stress or worry about what to “do for Lent. Take the first step and make it easy on yourself just ask Him.

How to LENT
Sometimes, it feels like Lent is just about giving up chocolate. But deep down, we all desire to do something more for Lent—we just don’t know how to do it.

Amen Prayer App
Peace of mind isn’t only attainable; it’s in your hands.
Amen is the free Catholic app that brings you beautiful prayers, faithful meditations and nourishing Scripture to draw your mind, body and soul to rest in God.
Amen provides faithful prayers rooted in Tradition to calm restless hearts; Catholic meditations to deepen your relationship with Christ, and nourishing Scripture to feed hungry souls. We are here to help you grow in the peace of our Lord. Peace of mind isn’t only attainable; it’s in the palm of your hand.
Fasting, prayer and almsgiving, as preached by Jesus (cf. Matthew 6.1-18), enable and express our conversion. The path of poverty and self-denial (fasting), concern and loving care for the poor (almsgiving), and childlike dialogue with the Father (prayer) make it possible for us to live lives of sincere faith, living hope and effective charity.
